Our Mali (gardener) is from Rai Barielly in UP. His name is  Narayan Maurya and belongs to  the caste of Kachi, as in Aulinjaa. They also do gardening, mostly vegetables and few fruits. In the cities they have converted themselves into doing ornamental and flower gardens, but still have a lot of traditional knowledge imbibed in them.

He own a 3 bighas (approx 1.15 acres) plot in Rai Barielly district. With this seasons heavy pre-monsoon, the farmers in his area have prepared themselves for the Dhaan (paddy) season. He just informed that they will be ready for the sowing in next 10-days. If it rains good, otherwise Ganga canal waters would be utilized.

My Father, who has gained much expertise in Farming in Madhya Pradesh in last 25 years, predicts that it can be a good year if the rains continue till September. As fo now it is a weak and early monsoon, but good enough to start the sowing of Rabi crops. In 60% area of M.P. sowing of Soyabean has commenced and it will be done in another week. Last year due to late monsoon and contenious rains, the sowing was delayed by almost a month, finishing around 15th July.
